The Tea Ceremony
One of the special parts of Mia & Chris's wedding weekend will be the traditional Vietnamese Tea Ceremony on Friday morning. We wanted to share a little information about it so everyone knows what to expect and can appreciate the beautiful tradition we're going to be part of.
The Tea Ceremony is centered around family. It is a time for the bride and groom to honor their parents and elders, express gratitude for the families who raised them, and celebrate the joining of two families. The couple traditionally serves tea to their parents and elders, who offer blessings, wisdom, and sometimes gifts to the newly married couple.

Chris and Mia’s Ceremony will be held outside on a small island

What to wear to the Tea Ceremony
If you'd like to participate in the tradition by dressing in Vietnamese clothing, the traditional outfit is called an áo dài (pronounced roughly “ow yai”). They are beautiful, elegant outfits worn by both women and men, and there are also styles available for children.
There is absolutely no pressure to purchase one! Formal, modest Western clothing is also appropriate. If you would like to wear an áo dài, however, it would be a beautiful way to honor the Vietnamese side of the family and the significance of the ceremony.
They have options for women and couples, and many traditional styles are relatively affordable. Click on the images below for one shop to buy from.
One little tip: if you order online, check the measurements carefully because Vietnamese sizing can run very small.
The Wedding Day
What time should I arrive at the church?
The mass will begin at 11 am so aim to be seated in the church by then!
Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?
Yes! There’s parking at both the Vietnamese Martyrs Church and the Asian Pear
Can I take pictures?
We would love it if you take pictures during the reception! We appreciate all those taking and sharing photos during the reception
What should I do between the wedding mass and reception?
You are free to do whatever in the time in between! Explore Sacramento! Take a nap at your hotel/Airbnb! Or change into another smashing outfit! Enjoy this break! :) The Asian Pearl doors open at 5:30 pm but we will probably not start eating until 7:00 pm.
What will the weather be like?
It will likely still be in the high 80s and can drop down to the 50s at night! Almost zero percent chance of rain
